Starting School – Essential Kit
With Freyja’s first day approaching, this is my final post in my Starting School series. This time it is essential kit for you and your children for the academic year:
Stationery
Pens, pencils and everything else are pretty much essential for school children. And even if they aren’t going to take them to school these products from The Royal Academy Arts Shop would be great for kids of all ages. I love the idea of the Sketch and Sniff Pencils (1) where each colour has a different scent as you draw with them. The Doodle Pencil Case (2) means that your child can personalise their pencil case with their own drawings and change their design over and over again. Otherwise the Red Canvas Pencil Roll (3) is a little more traditional. The Designer All-Purpose Stationery Set (4) comes with crayon, pencil, ruler, eraser and pencil sharpener. I love the brightly coloured erasers in the Designer Rainbow Rubber set and who wouldn’t want to have a Crocodile-Shaped wooden ruler (6)?
There is always the chance that pens and pencils could get lost, and whilst you could label each one, these personalised ones are lovely.
Bag
A good bag is needed to put all that stationery in. The My First JCB Backpack is ideal for fans of diggers and tractors. It has a large main compartment and smaller front pocket, adjustable back straps and a loop on top to hand on to a cloakroom peg hook.
And Freyja loves this pretty Ditsy Print Rucksack from My 1st Years which has been personalised with her name, in our choice of colour and font.
Lunchbox and water bottle
Sistema have a huge range of different lunchboxes to suit every need. I love the 2 litre Triple Split Lunch Box as it means I have different compartments for putting in salad or sandwiches as well as fruit or vegetable sticks. It also comes with a handy little yoghurt pot which could also be used for salad dressing or raisins.
Freyja loves her Sistema bottle which is the perfect size for her and easy to open and close.
Don’t forget to label all the items that go into school!
Diary
Finally, with Freyja’s transition into school, she is in and out of school at different times over the next few weeks and there will be various events going on at her school over the course of the year. Therefore a diary is going to be a pretty essential piece of kit for me! These ones from TOAD are great as you can fully personalise them to start at any point in the year. I love this one that has a dated page and a note page which will be perfect for getting myself organised over the year.

Disclaimer: We were sent the bags, lunchbox and diary for review, but all opinions are our own
Such a great post and informative for any parent of school children. I hope she loves her first day and the days following. I am sure she will 🙂

Thank you Jess! Hope yours are getting on well at their new pre-school
I love back to school and stationery posts even if I’m a little too old for both. And sketch and sniff pens?! Genius idea. I love stuff like that. Hope the first day went well xx
It went well, but it is now dawning on her that she is there every day!
Sketch and sniff pencils – I know!!! Oh to be young enough to justify having some for myself…..
