Splash About Nappy Costume
I’ve already written about the girls’ swimming lessons with Aquatots before. Swimming is such a valuable skill to learn and it gives me great pleasure to see their water confidence grow and how much fun they have during their lessons. The swimming lessons are a real commitment of time and money, but definitely worth it. Recently I was asked by Splash About to review one of their Happy Nappy Swimming Costumes. I leapt at the chance! I have used the Happy Nappy with both of my girls. Aquatots, like most of the other swim schools, insist that babies are “double bagged”. This means that the little swimmers have to wear an absorbent layer with a secure and snug-fitting second layer, such as the Happy Nappy, on top of this which contains and prevents leakage should your child have an accident! Believe me, the Happy Nappy has saved us, and our fellow swimmers on a few occasions!
As the girls got older I have liked putting them in a swimming costume too, but this of course has gone over the Happy Nappy so not only is another layer to get on and off but it never properly coordinates with the swimming costume (not that this would ever bother Freyja or Emily, but it does bug me). I was really pleased to find out about the Splash About Nappy Costume. It is exactly what I need – a swimming costume with an integrated Happy Nappy. There are four different designs, ranging from £14.99 to £16.99. I chose the really cute Pink Frilly Bum Nappy Costume because it was just the sort of thing Emily likes to wear. Like the other three costumes, it is made up of a neoprene Happy Nappy with a really soft nylon-lycra body, which is chlorine-resistant. It comes in five sizes – Small (0-4 months), Medium (3-8 months), Large (6-14 months), Extra-Large (12-24 months) and Extra-Extra-Large toddler which is suitable for 16kg+ children (approximately aged 2 to 4). Emily, being 18 months, obviously needed the Extra-Large size.
We are not allowed to take photos of the girls during their swimming lessons, and as I wanted to try the costume on Emily for size before the lesson, I decided to take a few snaps of her in her new swimming costume. She absolutely loved it! It was obviously very comfortable to wear and she does love really “girly” clothes so I think she appreciated my choice.
I did take loads of photos, but as she was so excited with her new swimming costume a lot of these were the famous “toddler blur”. I think this one though sums up exactly what she thinks of the Nappy Costume though:
Of course, the real test came from her swimming lesson. Rich always gets Emily ready as I am in the pool with Freyja for her lesson, and he found it easy to get on. It’s nice as there are no zips or buttons or other fastenings, just lovely soft material which just pulls on. Emily was in a pretty good mood as she had eaten and slept prior to the lesson, but she was really great this week. She happily swam underwater several times (although I wish she would close her mouth before she goes under!), floated on her back whilst I supported her head, “crab-walked” along the rail of the pool and threw herself off the floating matt a couple of times. She obviously had no issue doing her normal exercises and activities in her new costume. The only thing I am unable to attest to is how well the Happy Nappy Costume contains accidents as thankfully we didn’t have any!
Disclaimer: We were sent a free Splash About Nappy Costume to review, but all opinions here are my own. I, and more importantly Emily, really loved it!!
