Project Mc2 Perfume Science Kit
As you know, I am all for getting my girls interested in Science. They have really been enjoying the range of toys from Project Mc2. If you don’t know what Project Mc2 is, it is an American TV show on Netflix following a group of super smart, science-skilled girls. The series aims to to help advance girls in the areas of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). There are lots of fun activity sets that go with the series. We were sent the Project Mc2 Perfume Science Kit to try out.
The Project Mc2 Perfume Science Kit is the kind of thing that culinary chemist, Adrienne Attoms from the show would have. Once it has been set up (which is quick and easy to do), it does look like it would be at home in a real Science laboratory.
The set allows you to formulate your own perfumes using cosmetic chemistry. This doesn’t involve distillation of oils from plants as would normally be done in the perfume industry. Instead, the kit provides you will scented violet and poppy oils and you use these and any other fragrant household ingredients such as rosewater, flower petals, vanilla or citrus extracts to mix up your own perfume.
Once you have chosen your perfume elements, they are mixed with water in the two pumps. You then pump the ingredients through the tubes. The perfume drips down and collects in the beaker. Freyja managed to arrange the apparatus so that her perfume dripped down directly into one of the test tube-shaped spritzers.
The Project Mc2 Perfume Science Kit includes the perfume station with pump and tubes, a beaker, 3 perfume spritzers, 2 scents, 2 pipettes and a recipe booklet.
Freyja really enjoyed using this kit. She is at the age when she is really interested in perfume. I remember being very similar at her age. However, my perfume-making consisted of mixing up rose petals in jars of water. This kit has much nicer results!
