A Night Out at The Brewery Quarter, Cheltenham
Since having children, night’s out have become rare, and when I do get a chance to go out, I really want to make the most of it. I was really excited to be invited out to The Brewery Quarter in Cheltenham at the start of the week. Not only is Cheltenham not far away from me, but it was also a chance to socialise with some lovely bloggers (and friends): Lisa from Travel Loving Family, Katie from Katie Charlotte Blogs and Joy from Pinkoddy.
I met the others just after they had been for a beer tasting at the Brewhouse and Kitchen. I was gutted that I hadn’t been able to make this part of the evening as this had involved a beer tasting session and masterclass. As I was driving, I wouldn’t have been able to try the beers anyway, but I will definitely be going back here at some point to try them!
When I arrived, the others were in Nando’s. I have never been to Nando’s before. I have always assumed that all they serve is chicken, and any vegetarian option would be a disappointing chicken salad without the chicken. I have never been so wrong! The staff were really helpful and friendly and I was shocked to see three vegetarian dishes, each of which could be served in a burger, pitta or wrap. There was also a great choice of different side dishes too! I opted for the Portobello Mushroom and Halloumi Burger with a mixed leaf salad and PERi-salted chips. The food was served quickly, and it was hot and delicious.
Having spotted their children’s menu had several choices with chicken that could be served “plain…ish”, sides that my girls would definitely eat and then a choice of a drink or dessert for £5.65, Nando’s will be our next destination for a family meal!
After our meal, we went around the corner to enjoy bowling at Hollywood Bowl. I’ve not been to Hollywood Bowl before, but I was impressed with the look and feel of the place when we entered. It was really clean and modern, with Hollywood themed decor. As I was in my trainers, I didn’t even need to wear “bowling shoes”! The bowling lanes themselves were definitely a step-up from my past experience of bowling, with comfy leather sofas to relax on (with a drink from the bar) whilst you were waiting for your turn. When you enter your name into the computer, you can also say whether you want the lane bumpers up or not – then they will go up or down for each member of the party depending on whether they have been requested or not. This means that you can put them up for the kids (or useless bowling such as myself) and then have them down for the more experienced bowlers. Another place I will definitely consider taking the girls to at some point!
After bowling, we then headed over to Frankie and Benny’s for dessert. I love the idea of breaking up a meal by having a main at one place and a dessert at a different restaurant. Frankie and Benny’s have an amazing selection of desserts, and we had all built up an appetite after our game of bowling. There was a huge choice including sundaes, cheesecakes, ice cream, brownies and waffles to name but a few. If you can’t choose, there is even a “Can’t Decider” which has mini slices of Chocolate Fudge Cake, Citrus Tart, Pecan Pie and OREO Cookie Cheesecake, served with vanilla ice cream. I went for the salted caramel cheesecake, which was divine!
To finish our evening off, we went to Cineworld to see “The Nice Guys” starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. I haven’t been to Cineworld to see anything other than a “family movie” for a while, and whilst I might not have chosen to see this film, I actually really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the story, the action, humour and chemistry between Crowe and Gosling.
What this evening really showed me that although I might have been to The Brewery Quarter for a film, or a meal or bowling, you can actually make a whole evening out of a visit there. There are plenty of places to cater for most, and you can pick and choose the venues depending on whether you are wanting an afternoon out with the whole family, a girls’ night out, or a date night. You can find out all that The Brewery Quarter has to offer here.
