My time with Emily
My timetable this year at work has been the heaviest it has ever been since going part-time, and as a result I just get one day off a week. Freyja starting school this year has made me really think about making the most of the time I have with Emily before she starts in a couple of years. My little girl is such a happy, funny child and it’s a real privilege to spend some quality time with Emily.
In term time, we go to Pyjama Drama. It’s perfect at this time of year as Emily can run around and have fun, regardless of the weather. She loves singing, playing and pretending with all the other children. This week she pretending to ride a horse.
One of my favourite days with Emily was a trip to Slimbridge. Emily really wanted to feed the ducks – so much so that she even voluntarily bypassed the soft play in order to get out and feed the ducks. Of course, we had to spend some time in WellyBoot Land and the best thing about visiting at this time of year is how quiet it is. Emily had it to herself as she splashed around in the stream and played on the slides and roundabout.
After our two bags of grain ran out, we headed back to the main building to get some more food. Emily didn’t mind throwing food over the short fences to the awaiting ducks and swans, but was quite nervous of those that weren’t separated from her by a barrier. She did think it was really funny to watch me hand feed a few geese, but there was no way she was going to do that herself!
She was most annoyed by the pigeons who kept trying to eat the seed that she wanted to give to the ducks, however she had a bright idea. She decided to throw the seed directly at the pigeons, hitting them. She found this hilarious. I don’t think she realised that the pigeons didn’t really mind as she was just providing them with more food!
