My Birthday Weekend
This weekend was my big birthday. Whilst I did manage to indulge in plenty of gin and some lovely food, my favourite moments were out and about with my three favourite people. The weather was lovely over the whole weekend, so we managed to have some time at Stratford Park in Stroud on Saturday and then spent my actual birthday at Westonbirt Arboretum.
Stratford Park isn’t too far away from us and it is definitely my preferred park to take the girls to. When I lived in Stroud pre-Rich and the girls, I used to go for a walk here regularly. It is lovely to be able to go back to the park now and appreciate it in a different way, watching the joy of the girls as they enjoy the play area.
Honestly, some fresh air, a walk and being with these three really is just perfect. It reminds me how lucky I am.
Westonbirt Arboretum is lovely at this time of the year, and it has become a bit of a tradition to go around my birthday. I was really pleased that not only were we able to go on my birthday itself, but the weather was great. Although the autumn colours were not quite at their best, I loved the contrast of the reds, oranges and yellow leaves, against both the unchanged green leaves and the blue sky.
There were still plenty of fallen leaves for kicking around.
Freyja was off and would rarely stay still enough for a photo. Thankfully Emily is happy enough to pose for me. She enjoyed exploring amongst the trees and looking at the different coloured leaves.
Again, it was a great afternoon. The girls are never perfectly behaved, but I managed to get a few photos where I captured them genuinely enjoying being with each other and looking rather adorable together. When I come back to look at these photos, I will forget the grumbling about being “starving” or the usual bickering that goes on, and remember that actually they are lovely girls and they do really love each other. Most of the time.
The girls have always been “mummy’s girls”, and I think that this stems from my part-time working and therefore spending more time with me than Rich. However, it is lovely to watch the moments when they choose Daddy over me. On this occasion it was all about being spun about. Their giggles and cries of “Again!” couldn’t fail to make me smile.
I won’t lie. I had some great presents for my birthday, but the best thing really has to be being able to spend quality time with Rich and the girls. The best things in life really are free and having fun with these three is the most wonderful way to spend any day.
