Make Every Moment Count
Today I was invited to share a photo of what my family life looked like this afternoon as part of the Make Every Moment Count campaign by Shooting Star Chase. When I found out about the campaign I just had to find a way to get involved. Shooting Star Chase is a children’s hospice charity which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. It provides bespoke support free of charge, 365 days a year, supporting families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement.
This is the photo I chose to share.
Emily had not long woken up from her nap and was quite grumpy and clingy. Freyja decided to share a book with her. It just so happened to be “Guess How Much I Love You” which made the moment even more poignant. I am so lucky to have these two in my life. I can’t imagine my life without them, and they are developing such a close bond that I don’t think they would know what to do without the other in their lives.
I love getting out and about with the girls, going on adventures together, but sometimes it is these quieter moments of family life that stay with you the most. I love cuddles with the girls – squeezing them both onto my lap and them jostling for position. Some day they will be too big to do this and I need to cherish these moments, but also remember that, unlike some parents who have lost a child, I have the luxury of being able to do this. It really is important to Make Every Moment Count.
As part of their campaign, Shooting Star Chase are running The Sunrise Walk aiming to raise over £40,000 so they can continue providing a lifeline for parents, siblings and other family members who are coping with the loss of a child. The walk takes place on Sunday 31st May 2015 at 4:30am at Ham House near Richmond, and starts with lighting a paper lantern to remember a loved one. There are three routes, a 10K, 20K and 30K walk, and Shooting Star Chase are hoping for 300 walkers. If you want to get involved you can sign up on their website, and I would love to sponsor you and promote your walk on this blog. Please do let me know if you are going to take up the challenge.
Karen it just doesn’t bear thinking about, what a wonderful cause, we did a hospice walk last year it felt great to be doing something tiny to help. Chris and the boys are doing this year. I am a brit mums and the walk changed the date. But at least they will still be flying the flag for the Christie family x
I just can’t imagine how awful it must be – and this is from someone who has been widowed. For a parent to go through the heartbreak of losing a child, or a child losing a sibling, it is heartbreaking to think about it. I am so glad there are charities like this that can at least help.
Love that shot, it’s says so much about your girls and the bond they share. This is such an important charity and the campaign sounds so lovely. I can’t even imagine what these children and families are going through. Great post hon xx
Thank you. I had to spread the word about this campaign when I read about.
What a wonderful cause and so important. I am glad there are charities like this helping with this. Lovely post about your girls. Makes me want to go and wake my twins and hug them xx
Thank you. It does make you realise how important it is to treasure all the moments you have with your children doesn’t it?!
What an amazing cause and a lovely post about them Karen. We are so lucky to have charities out there like this that offer so much help and support! Lovely photos of your girls xxx
Thank you Hayley. Charities like this must be such a lifeline to families finding themselves in such an awful situation.
What a beautiful moment shared, mine is so desperate for a sibling, I have told him we are trying but of course a 4 year old doesn’t understand and doesn’t like to wait. Good luck in your charity walk, such a good cause. x x
Aw, lots of luck. I am sure it will happen at some point!
