Yesterday was National Cake Day (yes, apparently that is a thing) so it was very fitting that I received my Letterbox Gift Cake through the post from Baker Days.
Baker Days Letterbox Cake is a really clever idea. They are 5inch round cakes which are carefully packaged and designed to fit through a letterbox so you can send a delicious cake to family or friends and don’t have to worry about somebody being there to take delivery of it.
When I opened the box, not only was the cake carefully contained in a gorgeous little tin, there was also a mini cracker and Christmas card awaiting me in the box, which added a lovely festive touch.
The tin itself is gorgeous and perfect for putting little knick-knacks in, and Baker Days use a clever-yet-simple way to easily get the cake out of the tin – a little strip of paper which you pull to ease the cake upwards and out of the container.
Baker Days offer a huge variety of cakes for all occasions, which can be personalised, and if you still can’t find the right design for you, you can always design your own by uploading your own photo or artwork and message to go on the cake. I ordered a standard sponge cake, but you can also choose chocolate chip sponge, fruit cake, or gluten wheat free and dairy free cakes. I chosen their “Christmas Message” cake from their Christmas cake range, personalised with the girls’ names on.
Now, I am a big fan of cake, and I have to say I was a little sceptical about whether a 5inch cake would actually be enough for myself, husband and the two girls. However, I was pleasantly surprised that a quarter of this deliciously moist sponge left me completely satisfied. Freyja declared that the icing was “very yummy!” and I agreed with her. Baker Days claim that their cakes keep fresh for 14 days. I can’t imagine how anyone would manage to resist this cake for that long to be completely honest!
The Letterbox Gift Cakes cost from £14.99 with a variety of different postal options available. I love baking, so buying one of these for a local friend probably wouldn’t be an option for me however, I wouldn’t be able to produce such a beautiful looking cake myself. Supermarkets also offer personalised cakes, but these cakes really do taste far superior to any of the cakes that I have ever bought from a supermarket. I would definitely consider buying and sending these to friends who lived further afield, as an alternative to sending flowers. I particularly love Baker Days range of new baby cakes and these would be a lovely gift for a new mum – especially as they can be just posted through their door so no postman waking baby (or mum), and it’s cake! For a new mum a tasty cake to tuck into in those crazy days with a new born would be a more welcome present than flowers!
The Letterbox Gift Cake is a great idea and I really do believe these would make brilliant gifts. I already know of someone who thinks the idea of receiving a cake in the post is one of the best ideas ever….
