Getting out and about in the winter
Getting out and about at this time can sometimes feel a bit daunting. It’s cold and wet and the thought of having to deal with two cold, wet and moaning kids can be really off-putting. However, just because it is January shouldn’t be an excuse to hibernate and it does the girls (and me) the world of good to get outside, blow the cobwebs away and make sure we start 2015 with some good habits. These are some of the things we have managed to get up to over the last couple of weeks.
Trips to the park
With our closest parks being 10 minutes walk/scoot/cycle away, the park is a great place to take the girls even if it is for half an hour to get out for a bit. Not only do the girls like playing at the park, Freyja’s baby does too.
If we have more time to spare and the weather is dry, we venture further afield, with Westonbirt Arboretum and Slimbridge WWT Centre being two of our favourites.
Looking at this photo you would hardly believe it was taken in January. The arboretum is a great place for a walk, or for the girls to have a bit of a run around.
It is a great place for the girls to explore – especially with the current Gruffalo’s Child trail on at the moment.
And it is a great place to play.
Slimbridge is another great place to play.
And Welly Boot Land is always popular with the girls. Emily manages to find water to splash around in, even when the running water has been turned off for the winter.
And of course there is always a spot of birdwatching to do…….
