Very exciting day taking Freyja to the cinema for the first time. I’m not going to deny that I love a good Disney/Pixar film and it’s really made me happy that Freyja seems to be going the same way (but obviously she’s more in line with their target audience). Her current favourites (Tangled, Brave, all the Toy Story films) are watched fairly regularly and she is able to concentrate for their duration so I thought the time might be right try the cinema.
She watched the trailer for “Frozen” a couple of times and seemed up for seeing more. I said we could get popcorn. This didn’t go down well. Apparently, despite never trying it, she doesn’t like it. I explained to her about the cinema and she said she wanted to go.
She was very excited when we got to the cinema. I bought popcorn which Freyja then suddenly decided she did like after all. She was a little nervous of the big darkened room, but I had got seats in the first row behind the main aisle so we could make a hasty retreat if needs be. She didn’t like the cinema seats so sat on my lap, happily stuffing her face with popcorn (like mother, like daughter) during the trailers. And you’d have thought the “Mickey Mouse”short at the start was the funniest thing she had ever seen.
She wouldn’t sit still during the film, and had a bit of a dance in some of the songs, but was mesmerised throughout. I suppose the real indication that she enjoyed it was singing “Let it go” in the car on the way home and then requesting another trip to the cinema.
I am glad it was Frozen that she saw at the cinema first. A story about two sisters and their love for each other which triumphs in the end. Let’s hope that has a lasting impact on Freyja.
