Free Balls for Schools
Each New Year gets me thinking about getting a bit more active. But since having children, I am also fully aware that I need to ensure that they stay active. I want being active to be the norm for them and not something that they just think about at the start of a new year. I aim to walk on every school run, and spend time walking around some of our favourite local haunts, like WWT Slimbridge and Westonbirt Arboretum. An active lifestyle needs to be encouraged both at home and through sports played at school.
I found out recently that Sports Ball Shop, a family-run company in Oxfordshire are giving away free Lusum rugby balls to schools. The aim is simply for Lusum and Sports Ball Shop to help support school sports through providing good quality balls.
The ball brand Lusum is all about supporting sports at grass roots level. One way they do this is by avoiding sports sponsorship deals – as most of the major brands carry these costs over to the customers. Their aim was to create the best balls possible without charging high prices – so the best balls can be available for anyone to use, with an emphasis on schools and small clubs.
The balls are available to any school in the UK with no strings attached. All schools need to do is fill out a short form on their website and they will get sent some free balls. The offer applies to the first 250 schools to sign up.
So, if you are a fellow teacher, or have a school-aged child or even just have a local school which you know will benefit from £75 worth of free rugby balls, then there is a form to fill out on their website: https://www.sportsballshop.co.uk/acatalog/School-Orders.html
It would be really lovely to think that this campaign could inspire some future professional rugby players, but I also hope that it gets more young people enjoying sport and making an active lifestyle their norm.
