Crealy Adventure Park
On our recent visit to Cornwall, we spent part of one of our days at Crealy Adventure Park, near Wadebridge. It seemed it would be the perfect trip for the girls, with rides, indoor and outdoor play areas and animals – and it was!
One of the first things that the girls spotted was the Buccaneer Battles – a pirate-themed play area. The pirate ships had climbing areas and slides incorporated into them, but the biggest attraction was probably the air-fired guns which blasted out spongy balls. Both Freyja and Emily wanted a go at this, and Freyja was a worryingly good aim!
Freyja is a little bit scared of rollercoasters and fairground rides, but Rich decided to test out the Raging Rivers ride, which was basically a big water slide which you rode down in a dingy. The girls were amused watching their daddy splash down at the bottom of the ride. There was also a toddler friendly area with rides more suited to them. Freyja even happily went on two of them and enjoyed them so much so that we rode one of the rides twice. Emily loved the rides too, but I think Rich longed for something a bit more exciting!
Fairground rides aside, my two are always happy with a pedal or foot-powered ride to keep them amused.
What really blew them away was the indoor play area – the Dragon’s Kingdom Playzone. This was basically a massive soft play area with ball pit, raised walkways and huge slides. All three kids (the two girls and the 30-something one that I am married too) had a whale of a time in here. I was amazed to see how Freyja had grown in confidence, happily going down the slides by herself and not needing her hand held to go and explore.
Crealy also has lots of animals to see too. We had to stop by the meerkat enclosure as Freyja loves them, but they were equally entertained by the animals in Pets Corner. I could have stayed watching the Leaf Cutter Ants for ages, but the girls were much keener on the fluffy rabbits and guinea pigs. Freyja was particularly taken by a really fluffy rabbit, who seemed just as interested in her as she was in it.
The highlight of the trip was Freyja’s pony ride. Recently she has been asking about riding on a horse, but she has always been quite nervous of animals that aren’t in a cage or behind glass so I wasn’t convinced that she would actually want to sit on a horse. I was willing to risk £3 to see. For the few minutes it took for her horse, Candy, to be led around the paddock with her on its back, she had the best time ever. I think she really looked the part too. I was so impressed and proud of her that she did it and she had a huge grin on her face. That was definitely the highlight for her, and watching her do it was for me too.
