Last Sunday was a beautiful autumnal morning, and whilst Rich was out mowing the lawn (last one of the year?!) and sorting the garden, it seemed like a good opportunity to go for a walk with the girls. Freyja was initially reluctant to go as she wanted to do some drawing so I suggested we collect a few bits and pieces to make a picture with when we got back. We had managed to persuade Freyja that she was now too big for her trike and how it would be nice to let Emily use it. Not only did Freyja happily oblige, she also wanted to help push Emily.
As we were walking, we found plenty of sticks, sycamore “helicopters” and feathers which Freyja wanted to use to make a Gruffalo picture. I also spotted plenty of blackberries on the bushes around the field where we were walking. Freyja was keen to help pick the blackberries.
Emily did not want to miss out, but wasn’t a great deal of help as any blackberries she picked were squished up on her fingers and blackberry juice wiped all over her clothes.
After we had picked enough to do something with, we continued on to the local park and the girls had lots of fun. It was really nice watching them play together.
Emily adores her big sister pushing her on the swings.
After we got back I remembered seeing Fiona’s recipe for blackberry muffins on #CountryKids yesterday (bit.ly/1rspggW). It was obviously some divine sign! So whilst Emily had her nap, Freyja and I whipped up a batch. They were delicious!
Finally, Freyja got to make her pictures using the bits and pieces we picked up on the walk. Apparently these are characters from the Gruffalo – the snake is the easiest to spot!
It’s days like these that I love – something spontaneous, out in the fresh air, the girls enjoying each other’s company and something to show from it at the end of the day!
