Emily’s first birthday party
My baby is almost one! Yesterday we had a bit of a party for her. It was really a party for both girls as we didn’t have a get together for Freyja’s recent 3rd birthday and it was mainly her friends who were invited. We had to do something to mark little Emily’s 1st birthday though.
It was a really lovely day and for almost 6 hours, the back garden was full of family and friends and the sound of children enjoying themselves. What was really nice was that all the older children are now at an age where they are enjoying being with each other and playing together and there were no real tantrums over toys etc. Considering that at one point there were ten children aged 3 or under it was surprisingly stress-free!
I have written before about my guilt surrounding lack of “friends” for Emily, but today I have finally made peace with that. Why? Because I realised that Freyja’s friends are also Emily’s friends. They wouldn’t be her friend if she weren’t Freyja’s little sister, as they wouldn’t have met her, but they are her friends and Emily wouldn’t know these brilliant kids if it weren’t for her big sister. These lovely children want to play with Emily and are not at all that phased by having a little person hanging around with them. They share toys and get her involved, which of course Emily LOVES. So what if she doesn’t have friends her own age? She is the “cool kid” who hangs out with her older friends!
